Leeds Ahead provides support for a mentoring programme for our Leeds Not Just Us group

Some great news for the Not Just Us programme in Leeds. Leeds Ahead announced they are going to support the LYF in setting up a mentoring scheme for our Leeds Not Just Us group. Leeds Ahead is an award-winning social business that helps companies across the city to get involved in the regeneration of Leeds through community engagement programmes. http://www.leedsahead.org.uk/home

Although Leeds in a very affluent city, the wealth is mainly concentrated in the centre, thus there are many deprived neighbourhoods merely a stone’s throw away from the city. Leeds Ahead links together the private, voluntary and public sectors in effective relationships which help narrow the gap between the city’s haves and have nots.

They are very excited about the work the Lorna Young Foundation is doing with young people in the Beeston area of Leeds, which is one of the most deprived areas located less than 2 miles out of the city centre. As of 2011, Leeds Ahead business coordinator Shelley Riley will be promoting the NJU programme to businesses in Leeds, with the aim of developing mutually beneficial relationships between the business community and the young ethical entrepreneurs.

She will work with businesses and the Not Just Us team to create a community engagement programme which will match business objectives to the needs of the Not Just Us programme. The result will be a 12 month mentoring scheme which will enable our young people to get regular support and advice, as well as learn key business management skills, as they set up and develop their social enterprise.
