Leeds Not Just Us attend their first fair trade event and chat to MP Hilary Benn about their ambition to set up their own ethical business.
The Leeds youth programme got off to a fantastic start this year. The budding young ethical entrepreneurs from Beeston, Middleton, Belle Isle and Harehills threw themselves in at the deep end by attending their first fair trade event where they bumped into MP Hilary Benn and told him all about their plans.
They attended the event run by Leeds DEC and hosted by Leeds University, where Hilary Benn was guest speaker. They chatted to him about the Not Just Us programme, about their backgrounds and their ambition to learn “everything there is to know about fair trade” and then set up their own ethical business.
They also got to meet several fair trade businesses and check out some fair trade products. They were surprised at the wide range of ethical and fairly traded goods! And they were challenged by one fair trade business owner who asked them to make fair trade clothing designs appeal to the young masses… a challenge we think they are up to!
