Lorna Young was the fair trade pioneer responsible for Sales and Marketing at Cafedirect – Britain’s number 1 fair trade hot drinks company. Lorna secured the first supermarket sales listings for Cafédirect products, single-handedly introducing fair trade to the mainstream.

Fair trade has demonstrated what happens when you mix consumer power and grower self-determination; poverty is alleviated, better products are produced and the first shoots of sustainable livelihoods are there for all to see. The fair trade premium (an additional payment made to growers on top of the market price for their crop) helps growers re-invest in their orchards, communities and livelihoods.

The Lorna Young Foundation is rooted in a passionate commitment to fair trade and wants to bring Lorna’s vision to life through business and marketing education. Money generated by the Lorna Young Foundation will provide a framework for fair trade growers and communities in developing countries to take the next step on the ladder to independence.
